The KTM 390 SMC R has been spotted testing in India, and here’s how the motorcycle differs from its ADV sibling.
The new KTM 390 Adventure range has spawned an enduro motorcycle and a supermoto. The latter was unveiled last year and there was news about the new KTM 390 SMC R coming to India, and now, after a test mule has been spotted, we can say that the launch date is getting closer. According to reports, we can expect KTM to launch the new 390 SMC R in India this quarter — before June 2025.
KTM 390 SMC R — How different is the bike compared to the 390 Adventure?

The KTM 390 SMC R is based on the same platform as the 390 Adventure and the motorcycle is suspended by fully adjustable WP Apex USD forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. This suspension setup allows 230mm of wheel travel, while the 390 Adventure gets only 200mm of travel. The motorcycle also gets dual-channel ABS with a supermoto mode.
The new KTM 390 SMC R, despite its long suspension travel, runs on 17-inch wheels. The test mule spotted had wire spoke wheels and we expect KTM to offer the same in India as well. That said, the motorcycle gets a smaller TFT display, similar to the 390 Enduro R and gets three ride modes: Rain, Street, and Sport.
Powering the motorcycle is the same 399cc engine that does its duty in the Duke and Adventure range. The engine makes 45.3bhp and 39Nm of torque with the help of a 6-speed gearbox. One thing to see is if KTM will allow the SMC R to behave like a hooligan with the Duke’s power delivery or choose to keep it calmer like the 390 Adventure.
