Cast your vote for the Journal’s Athlete of the Week presented by Glen Oaks!

STURGIS — Greetings, once again. We’re starting to do things a little differently around here when it comes to roundups for baseball and softball, the stories are now running as “Top Performers” where you can catch up on all the highlights from the previous week in one place.

I’m planning on running a baseball and softball one separately each Sunday night/Monday morning. But because you landed here specifically, it’s time to cast your vote for the Athlete of the Week presented by Glen Oaks Community College. Big fan of GOCC being our main sponsor for this for the remainder of the school year as they understand the importance of local student-athletes in our communities.

Kendall Penny, Jennaya Decker of Three Rivers

A pair of Three Rivers softball players are up for the honor this week. Both Kendall Penny and Jennaya Decker blasted a pair of homers last week, they drove in 11 runs between them.

Jozee Buglione of Constantine

Jozee Buglione helped lead Constantine to a Sturgis Invitational title on Saturday. For the week, she totaled six hits and drove in six total runs, that included a home run on Saturday.

Roni Bir of Bronson

Roni Bir has paced the Bronson softball offense so far. Last week, she clubbed a pair of home runs and drove in six runs for the Vikings.

Jordan Pisco of White Pigeon

No stranger to our athlete of the week polls, White Pigeon’s Jordan Pisco returns. At the White Pigeon track invite on Friday, Pisco was first overall in three events, winning the 110 hurdles, the high jump and the long jump.

Kaylyn Coney, DeAndre Stout of Centreville

Kaylyn Coney and DeAndre Stout of Centreville each had a strong showing at the White Pigeon invite. Stout ran to first place in the sprint races and was a part of two winning relays (400, 800). Coney ran to first place in the 200 and 400 runs, plus she was part of the winning mile relay. Coney also won the high jump.

As always, you can vote as many times as you’d like. New to the polls recently is the option to vote for more than one athlete at a time, which is a pretty neat feature. By selecting more than one athlete, you don’t really have to choose between members of the same school, which I know some of you will like.
