Georgia, China sign agreement on export of Georgian honey to Chinese market

Tbilisi hosted the 9th meeting of the Georgia-China Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Levan Davitashvili, Georgian First Vice-Speaker/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and Ling Ji, Member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce/Vice Minister and Deputy China International Trade Representative, reviewed key aspects of trade-economic relations between Georgia and China.

The sides reviewed Georgia-China free trade intensification prospects, investment relations and deepening cooperation in transport, logistics, energy, information technologies and innovations, tourism, agriculture and other key spheres.

According to Levan Davitashvili, in 2024, trade turnover between the countries increased by 17% compared to the previous year and amounted to 1.92 billion USD. In terms of trade turnover, China ranked 4th among Georgia’s largest trading partners.

Following the Commission meeting, Levan Davitashvili and Ling Ji signed the protocol of the 9th meeting of the Georgia-China Joint Commission. The sides inked a permit to export Georgian honey to the Chinese market. Also, negotiations on a protocol to export poultry meat to the Chinese market will be completed in the coming months. This will be an additional opportunity for Georgia to export products of high demand to the Chinese market for the first time.

Levan Davitashvili invited the Chinese delegation head to the 5th Forum of Tbilisi Silk Road, which will take place on October 22-23.
