Another full house and another great night of music at Arlington Arts. Opening tonight was Greene, a solo, acoustic singer songwriter, who like the Cinelli Brothers is impossible to pigeon-hole in to a single genre.

In a relatively short set he was able to show his ability to communicate with an audience with his relaxed banter as well as his wide-ranging musical influences. Starting with some contemporary folk styled self-penned songs like She’s So Fine and Simple Song he moved on via a cover of Jackson Browne’s The Road to end with a couple of toe-tappers including the rock ‘n’ roll tinged Shimmy Shimmy. A young artist with genuine promise.

The Cinelli Brothers are phenomenal performers, a great live outfit. Four extremely skilled musicians each of whom are excellent vocalists and multi-instrumentalists who switch instruments as easily and as frequently as they switch genres. There are blues, rock, soul, 60s inspired pop as well as Latin influences. They even found space for a salsa-based track.

They generate and maintain interest and excitement and really know how to work a crowd and get people dancing.

Dozen Roses highlighted their more romantic side while Fools Paradise, a song written about life in London, was well observed and acerbic in its lyrical content.

Their cover of The Beatles track Don’t Let Me Down was quite stunning and the brand new track Dark Side of The Road was brilliant, suggesting that they are still a band with a lot to offer in future.

As they observed in a philosophical moment there may be a lot wrong in the world today but music, especially live music, is a great antidote. “Where would we be without live music”? A sentiment I heartily endorse.

They built toward a great crescendo via their own track Nobody Loves Me to an encore including a fantastic cover of The Weight (The Band) and the rip-roaring self-penned Mama Don’t Like You.

Absolutely brilliant.

If you love live music the Cinelli Brothers are a must-see.
