WNC Week 8 high school spring sports girls athlete of the week
Following Week 8 of WNC spring sports, it’s time to vote on last week’s top performances from girls athletes in WNC.
Vote for the girls athlete who had the best performance last week. The poll closes Thursday at noon.
Caitlin Shapiro, Avery County: Shapiro netted a hat trick on April 14 as the Vikings defeated Draughn, 3-2. On April 16, Shapiro’s two goals helped the Vikings earn a tie against Mountain Heritage, 2-2.
Layla Worley, Mountain Heritage: The catcher went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, five RBIs and four runs scored in a 12-2 win over Avery County.
Paisley Johnson, Murphy: Johnson was 8-for-12 with a home run, five doubles and nine RBIs at the plate while pitching 15 innings and striking out 23 in three games last week. Johnson led the Bulldogs to a 25-5 win over Andrews on April 15, a 5-4 win over Franklin on April 16 and an 18-0 win over Andrews on April 17.
Sadie Messer, Pisgah: Messer pitched all 15 innings of the Bears’ marathon 4-3 win over West Carteret. She struck out 20 batters, walked one, gave up 11 hits and only allowed three runs to earn the win.
Reeve Carroll, Polk County: Carroll recorded a brace and assisted the other two goals in Polk’s 4-4 draw with Hendersonville on April 17. Carroll scored two goals to power the Wolverines to a 4-0 win over Murphy on April 18.
Dreylee Webster, Robbinsville: Webster homered, doubled and drove in six runs to lead Robbinsville to a 7-1 win over Reynolds.
