“In 2024 to 2025, we have exceeded the exports target by $1 billion set up by the department of commerce and going by this trend, our exports will cross $6.5 billion in 2025 to 2026,” said the Council for Leather Exports’ director R Selvam, the Press Trust of India reported. Highlighting growth in the face of international trade uncertainties, the traders’ body has reported healthy demand in both developed and developing countries.

India’s key export destinations the UK and US are both witnessing strong exports, according to the Council for Leather Exports. In order to mitigate tarif increases, many exporters are offering discounts to international buyers to avoid cancellations. The organisation expects to see continued strong order volumes from these countries over the coming months.

“From April 14 to 15, the situation is normal,” said the Council for Leather Exports’ chairman Rajendra Kumar Jalan, ET Retail reported. “We have suggested ‘zero for zero’ duty to the government in the proposed bilateral trade agreement with the US.”
