Take a ‘Musical Science Journey’ in Arcata – Times-Standard

Catalina Cuellar-Gempeler will give a free presentation, “From Frogs and Bacteria to DNA: A Musical Science Journey,” May 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street, Arcata.

This talk is part of the First Wednesday Lecture Series sponsored by Friends of the Arcata Marsh. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. The talk will also be viewable via Zoom at

Cuellar-Gempeler is an assistant professor in the Cal Poly Humboldt Biological Sciences Department.

A press release for the talk says, “The mysteries of the biological world are alive with music in her presentation that will take you from the songs of frogs to the dynamic code embedded in the DNA. With original music by Marine Snow and featuring a selection of Biological Sciences faculty, you will learn about environmental issues, obscure marine organisms, the microorganisms living inside you, carnivorous plants, epigenetics and more. No issue is too strange to marvel about our living world; recognize that we still have a lot to learn and sing along to catchy tunes.”
