Ernakulam: The Malayalam film Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy and starring Mohanlal, has been a massive success since its release on April 25.

The film continues to perform well at the box office, but amidst its success, a complaint has been lodged alleging unauthorised use of an original story.

Nandakumar AP, a film director and screenwriter, has filed a formal complaint with the Mulamthuruthy Police Station, claiming that the storyline of Thudarum closely resembles his original work, titled Raman.

Nandakumar claimed that he conceived the story in the early 2000s and formally saved it in a PDF document in 2021. According to the complaint, the story was shared with several industry figures, including actors Bala and Harisree Ashokan, and others for feedback.

“The plot revolves around Raman’s life struggles, his battles against injustice symbolized by John, and his journey towards ultimate victory.
Later, I personally narrated this story to actors Bala and Harisree Ashokan, and handed over a printed copy of the story to Mr. Bala,” he wrote in his complaint.

However, after watching Thudarum, Nandakumar claimed that he was shocked to find striking similarities between the movie’s plot.

“I have not given any written or verbal permission for the use of my story by any individual or production. The unauthorized usage of my intellectual property has caused me deep mental agony and potential financial loss,” he said in his complaint.

He has requested that authorities conduct a detailed investigation and take legal action against those responsible for the alleged infringement.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Thudarum continues to draw large crowds, with Mohanlal’s performance and the film’s direction receiving widespread acclaim.
