This would be the juicy return of the reopening of the US market for Dominican beef.
After more than 10 years of technical work, the Dominican Republic reopened the US market for beef exports. This milestone represents a strategic opportunity for developing the country’s livestock sector.
Technical process and accreditation
According to agricultural engineer Winston Marte, the process involved standardizing standards related to inspection, quality control, and safety in the slaughter and processing of meat.
In addition, compliance with international regulations and technical capacity were verified to ensure that the processed meat was free of chemical residues from veterinary medicines and pesticides.
“This effort ensures that the Dominican Republic meets the requirements of the US market, allowing for competitive entry,” Marte said.
Economic opportunity and future challenges
According to estimates, the market reopening could generate revenues of up to $100 million annually with an appropriate export strategy. Marte suggested that the government implement support policies such as long-term loans, specialized technical assistance, and technical equipment to ensure compliance with quality and safety requirements in processing plants.

“It is crucial to put together a long-term plan to make sure there’s a steady supply of better quality products for that market,” said Marte.
Strengthening the livestock sector
This advance represents an excellent opportunity to position Dominican beef as a competitive product in the region. It also promotes the modernization of livestock farms and the development of sustainable policies that drive the sector.
This achievement marks a new chapter for Dominican beef in international trade, opening the doors to a key market such as the United States.
