This is a not-to-miss function for female football fans

AFL Goulburn Murray will be hosting a Women in Sport Luncheon on May 9 at Fowles Wines at Avenel.

While the food and drink will be flowing, sports journalist Sarah Burt will be the master of ceremonies for the event.

Debbie Lee, a pioneer of women’s football and AFL national women and girls football lead, will deliver a keynote speech.

Lee was the first woman to be inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame for her contribution to the sport and for her being a driving force behind the introduction of AFLW.

The talk will then be followed by a panel discussion with Netball Victoria chief executive Andrea Pearman, Rossiter Constructions general manager Olivia Ross and MBCM Strata Specialists director Amelia Glazebrook as the guests.

AFL Goulburn Murray club development lead Samantha Monaghan said the event would mark the launch of a new program.

“The luncheon will serve as the beginning of AFL Goulburn Murray’s Women and Girls Leadership Network with the event designed to inspire, empower, celebrate and create networking opportunities for women in our community,” Monaghan said.

The two-hour event is for anyone who participates in, is interested in or is passionate about the development and growth of women and girls’ sports at grassroots level.

AFL Goulburn Murray is a signatory of the AFL Women and Girls Community Football Charter, which is a commitment from football leagues, clubs and umpire groups to create a safe and inclusive environment for women and girls.

The charter is built on four key pillars (providing opportunity, visibility, access and investment) that signatories must instil within their organisations.

Tickets for the event are on sale through website TryBooking.
