5 Things To Know About Chanel’s Lake Como Show

It’s officially resort show season, which is the time of year when luxury fashion labels stage extravagant runway shows in glamorous, far-flung locales around the world. Today, Chanel went for a La Dolce Vita vibe and presented their cruise 2025 collection at Villa d’Este on Lake Como, famed for its Italian renaissance garden The clothes–an ode to the cinematic glamour of Italian travel–were designed by the house’s Creation Studio (the new Creative Director Matthieu Blazy will show his first collection for Chanel in October). There was spectacular cafe-style seating on a covered patio, a soundtrack that included Dean Martin’s Sway, and front row guests that included Sofia Coppola and Lupita Nyong’o. Ciao bella, indeed.

Below, here’s a look inside Chanel’s major moment on the lake.

  1. The show was held at Villa d’Este, one of the most iconic hotels in Italy, once frequented by Elizabeth Taylor and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Surrounded by a 25-acre park, the 16th-century villa was built in 1568 and features rich, Renaissance interiors and lush gardens.
  2. The house of Chanel has a long history in Italy, and specifically, its founder had a long love affair with its most opulent cities like Venice and Rome. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel first visited Lake Como in the 1930s when she traveled there with her friend, filmmaker Luchino Visconti, and this collection paid homage to his cinematic interpretations of decadence and beauty.
  3. Chanel’s Creation Studio began with a vision anchored in the idea of joyful dressing and an unabashed approach to style. There were multi-hued sequined tweeds and backless jumpsuits in pink and lamé–looks made for dancing under the moonlight on the shores of Como. There were also beautiful lace and floral motifs that punctuated skirt suits and billowy dresses, some accessorized with opera gloves and minaudières.
  4. The front row was packed with star quality, from The White Lotus’s Sarah Catherine Snook to actresses Keira Knightley and Margaret Qualley, who serve as brand ambassadors.
  5. Sofia Coppola directed a short film centered on the Chanel cruise show and starring model Ida Heiner. Ahead of the film’s release tomorrow, check out the dreamy teaser here.
