Starting with launch at Papar’s Parklane City: Sabah movie hopes to make impact

PAPAR: The Parklane City @ Benoni here screened a new movie “Danum”, which was almost 100pc filmed in Sabah, particularly at Danum Valley, Lahad Datu, at 10Star Cinema on Friday.
Its developer WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said the management of 10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd has chosen its flagship cinema here to be the first to screen the movie to reward and the local communities for their full support and encouragement to the cinema, here.

The movies official release is stated for Oct 10, 2024.
Susan said she is also honoured at being invited to flag off the Tawau 4 X 4 Club from Parklane City here involving 24 4WD vehicles to celebrate the launching of the film.
“I am very thankful to the film company for choosing 10Star Cinema in Parklane City here to launch its promotional ‘Danum’ tour in a convoy which starts from Benoni, Papar to travel to Kota Marudu and then to Sandakan and continue to Tawau.
“I hope the movie will become a big box office hit.”

The cinema in Benoni, here, is equipped with the latest hi-tech equipment and comfortable viewing experience.
“Parklane City and Benoni are being recognised, especially by the film industry players,” she said, adding that the top floor of the cinema building will be renovated into a banquet hall with air-conditioning to be completed in December.

The banquet hall which can accommodate 50 tables is ideal to host dinner functions, conference, weddings, birthdays and movie premieres, among others.
She said they are also going to build an international standard indoor sports arena in Benoni soon, consisting of badminton courts, table tennis and futsal courts. Together we transform Papar into an entertainment centres and a sport city.” 
“10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Onn Norshal Hamzah invited the sales team to follow the promotional tour convoy of Tawau 4 X 4 Club to promote Parklane Residences Lifestyle Condominiums to the communities.
“In conjunction with the ‘Danum’ screening, I am giving a special discount of RM5,000 for buying our Parklane Residence Lifestyle condominiums, apart from the Bumiputra 5% discount to those attending this special event,” Susan said, adding it offers affordable units of RM246,000 for two bedrooms and two bathrooms where, value is expected to double in five years’.
Onn Norshal told the reporters that 10Star Cinemas is the film distributor for Danum to be screened in all 60 cinemas in the country, including 16 10Star Cinemas in Sabah.
The movie plot revolves around uncovering hidden secrets and the mysteries lurking in the dense rainforest in Danum Valley. 
“The RM1.2 million film is directed by Khairul Anuar Latip from the peninsula, who has produced many documentaries and films about Sabah. The cast, include actors and actresses from Sabah like Marsha Milan and Marlin Brandon, among others.”
Onn Norshal expects the movie to break even exceed the production cost.
“It is not impossible because the Sabah movie ‘Sinakagon’, a first Sabah Dusun movie has collected RM250,000 in revenue, which is the highest so far.
“People in the peninsula watched this Dusun movie although they did not understand the language. It still sells, and also because we cannot make judgment or gauge the market which is unpredictable. The same thing goes for Danum that has huge potential,” he said.
