Exciting classical music duo set for Strule Arts Centre this May – Photo 1 of 1

TWO of Northern Ireland’s finest classical musicians, flautist Aisling Agnew and harpist Richard Allen, are presenting a new collaborative project The duo are set to perform in Omagh and Cushendun, delivering a programme of music from the vast flute and harp repertoire, including music by well-known composers such as Hamilton Harty and Astor Piazzolla.

Aisling Agnew has performed across many continents, from the National Flute Convention in Las Vegas to the Jeonju International Festival in Korea.

She specialises in playing a wide range of flutes in a variety of styles, performing on silver and wooden concert flutes as well as a baroque and Irish flute and whistle. Aisling is the recipient of many awards and currently hosts the successful podcast The Flute NI.

A BBC and ACNI young musician platform awardee, Richard Allen, has also won 2nd prize at the prestigious Félix Godefroid International Harp Competition in Belgium, following a 1st prize at the North London Camac Competition. In 2023, he was appointed harp tutor at the Institute of Fine Arts at Leuphana Universität in Germany and gives courses and masterclasses across Europe.

This brand new project showcases Aisling and Richard working in partnership to deliver exquisite and rarely heard music as they bring NI audiences on a journey of music from the 18th century to the present day, from France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Ciaran Scullion, Head of Music and Opera, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said: “These performances promise to be very special indeed. Both Aisling Agnew and Richard Allen are exceptional musicians, and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland is delighted to support Moving on Music in bringing these world-class homegrown artists to audiences in Omagh, helping to bring great art to all.”
