Artificial intelligence is reshaping the passenger experience at Dubai Airports, according to CEO Paul Griffiths, who outlined the technology’s transformative potential during a keynote fireside chat at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025.

Speaking on the Global Stage, Griffiths detailed how facial recognition and AI-powered processes are central to Dubai Airports’ seamless travel strategy, as the emirate braces for a projected 96 million passengers by year-end. “Customer preferences are no longer just about price or product, but about the quality of the ground experience,” he said.

He also shared design insights from the upcoming Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), where eight compact concourses will aim to reduce transit times and increase passenger comfort.

The discussion was part of ATM’s wider focus on air and sea travel this year. Passenger figures are surging, with January alone recording 8.5 million movements through Dubai’s airports. Key markets driving growth include India, Saudi Arabia, the UK and the US.

In a separate session, cruise industry experts gathered to examine the Arabian Gulf’s growing profile as a global cruise destination. Between 2019 and 2024, global cruise deployment rose 25%, with a further 5% added in 2025 so far. The Middle East, in particular, has seen a 125% increase in average cruise days spent in the region.

MSC Cruises’ Executive Director Angelo Capurro highlighted Central Asia as a growing source market, supported by improved connectivity and streamlined visa access. The panel also spotlighted Saudi Arabia’s Aroya Cruises and the Cruise Alliance as key drivers of regional cruise development.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME for Arabian Travel Market, said the conference was a window into the sector’s fast-changing landscape. “This week at ATM, we’ve hosted leaders shaping the future of travel, from AI innovation and sustainable tourism to new market frontiers,” she said.
