Chris Hemsworth lands unique new movie role playing himself

Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has landed a unique new movie role playing himself.

The actor, who plays Thor in the superhero franchise, will appear in the first of an initial four-part film series called Stuntnuts. Argylle‘s Sam Rockwell is also on board to star (via Deadline).

The pair are set to guest star in the first movie of the series, Stuntnuts: The Movie, which was filmed in November 2023. Post-production is set to be completed next month.

Directed by stunt coordinator Damien Walters, the film centres around a group of athletes who try to raise funds for the gym where they all trained.

“They use their athletic and gymnastic skills to hire themselves out as stuntmen,” teases the film’s official synopsis.

The actors will be joined by a core group of stunt artists who will appear in all four movies with a nut-inspired nickname.

Hemsworth’s regular stunt double Bobby Holland Hanton is Nutjob, while Greg Townley, expert gymnast and stunt double for Tom Holland on Spider-Man, is Hardnut.

Harry Potter and Games of Thrones stuntman Paul Lowe is Peanut, with the only stuntwoman in the film, Haruka Oshima, going by the name Hazelnut.

WWE star John Cena will feature as Chestnut in the third film in the series, Stuntnuts Does Shiver. He will be joined by pop sensation and stunt performer Benson Boone, who will play Go Nuts.

“The whole fun of the film is that the stunt artists will be joined by various big name stars and they are the supporting artists supporting the stunt artists who are the stars of the film,” said producer Matthew Vaughn.

Walters also revealed that Hemsworth and Rockwell agreed to work on the film to “help” out their stunt performing friends.

“I talked to Chris about the idea and then Matthew helped cement it. Sam was interested as well. We’ve all worked together and, you know how ideas get discussed between takes on a set and this was one of them,” he explained. “It was the germination of an idea, that sort of grew out of control.”

Stuntnuts: The Movie doesn’t have a release date yet.
