Meghalaya tourism bodies unite to promote peace and safety for tourists

Shillong, Sept 29: Tourism organizations including tour operators in Meghalaya have unanimously resolved to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the state for the benefit of all tourism stakeholders and visitors.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Tour Operators Association of Meghalaya (TOAM) and attended by 11 tourism organizations and tourist taxi associations at the State Convention Centre, Shillong on Saturday.

The discussion focused on issues faced by tourist taxi drivers, particularly concerns raised by the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA).

“After extensive deliberations, the members of all the organisations agreed on the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in Meghalaya for the benefit of all tourism stakeholders and visitors. They reaffirmed their commitment to ensure the safety and security of tourists visiting the state,” said an official statement issued after the meeting.

The 11 tourism organizations of Meghalaya also comprises of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF), All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA), Tour Guides Association of Meghalaya (TGAM), All Shillong Tourist Taxi Drivers Union Organization (ASTTDUO), Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (MTTA), Federation of Shillong Hotels (FOSH), Sohra Region Tourism Association (SRTA), Jaintia Tourism & Environment Society (JTES), Khasi Hills Tourist Taxi association (KHTTA), and Ri Bhoi Tourism & Environment Development Forum (RBTEDF).
