With warmer weather arriving and local sports teams gearing up, the Portage Regional Recreation Authority (PRRA) says Republic Park is ready for action.
“We’ve had our contractor, Go Green, out there working hard to get everything cleaned up and prepped,” said Angie Shindle, general manager of the PRRA.
“Most soccer and baseball teams will start practices next week, with a few already taking advantage of the great weather this weekend.”
Maintenance crews have been busy getting the soccer pitches and baseball diamonds into shape, and early assessments show that the fields weathered the winter well.
“We’re very thankful for that, it makes spring cleanup much easier.”
During the winter months, a groomed walking path through the park remains open, and Shindle praised visitors for respecting the space.
“We appreciate everyone cleaning up after themselves and continuing to do so,” she said, particularly urging pet owners to be responsible.
For real-time field status or weather cancellations, parents and athletes are encouraged to visit www.strideplace.ca and click on the Republic Park section, where daily closures and openings are posted.
Shindle also reminded the public of an ongoing issue: unauthorized use of motorized vehicles in the park.
“Republic Park is not for that. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the fields, pathways, or anywhere in the park.”
