Sports and fashion are often seen as worlds apart, but this year’s Met Gala begs to differ. The Met’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibition centers the fashion of the Black Dandy through a masculine lens. According to Page Six, this year’s guest list prioritized athletes—both newcomers and hall-of-famers—like Co-chair LeBron James, who unfortunately had to miss the event due to injury.
With athletes from basketball, F1, soccer, and more in attendance, we’ll see just how well the narrative that athletes can’t dress holds up. Below, we’re tracking the best-dressed athletes as they step on to the Met Gala red-carpet and sourcing their looks.

Breanna Stewart wears a 3-piece cream Sergio Hudson suit and top-hat. Finally, someone is bringing pimp style into the conversation of Black Dandyism.

Venus Williams can’t leave tennis behind, it’s in her blood. And that’s apparent not only in this full emerald green look with the center piece being the tennis skirtbut due to her dresser: Lacoste. The flashy overcoat and polo ties this whole look together. She’s serving major wicked vibes.
Angel Reese

Angel Reese understood the assignment. Wearing custom Thom Browne, she’s not only on theme by wearing a fine tailored suit, something Browne is well versed in but she still found a way to feminize it by adding a mid-corset.
Dwayne Wade

Dwanye Wade looks way back to an 18th-century silhouette and style of suit. And that’s what easily makes him the best dressed athlete of the night. Wade is wearing Prada for the third time to the gala with Tiffany jewels, and is looking oh-so flamboyantly dandy, if I do say so myself.
