Inspiring football personalities motivate Wrexham students
The Gamechangers: The Future of Football and Community Development conference was the stage where speakers shared their unique paths in football and the influence of the sport.
One speaker, who found a way to inspire the students, was the head of community at Wrexham AFC Foundation.
Addressing the degree students, Jamie Edwards said: “Working for Wrexham AFC is like jumping on an aeroplane, taking off – all while building it mid-air, you just never know what’s around the corner next.
“I love it.
“It’s all about grabbing those opportunities as and when they arise.
“Don’t wait around and don’t wait to be asked, volunteer, go out there, and try and experience things for yourself.”

“But ultimately, enjoy what you’re doing and what’s in front of you.”
Mr Edwards, who joined the club last year, provided an interesting perspective on his role at the football club.
He enthusiastically shared his love for ‘making a difference’, which he found fulfilling in his role at the club.
He said: “Through the power of football and the club, we want to improve the lives of children and young people through improving their health, support their learning and provide them with opportunities.”
He disclosed their new partnership with Kick4Life FC from Lesotho this year, offering a chance to make a global impact while staying ‘rooted locally’.
Other inspirational speakers on the day included representatives from Ashoka Sport for Changemaking, Cymru Football Foundation, Aberdeen Football Club and Sport4Change.
Sara Hilton, senior lecturer in football and coaching science at Wrexham University, was thrilled by the success of the event.
She said: “We were proud to welcome a powerhouse line-up of speakers who inspired, challenged, and energised our students, who were treated to thought-provoking discussions and invaluable insights into how football is being used as a force for positive change in communities around the world.
“A huge thank you to our fantastic speakers, who each brought something special to inspire our next generation of football changemakers.”
