Rockstars of Tomorrow venue adds independent concerts, shows to lineup

Hesperia’s newest music venue isn’t that new at all.

Music school Rockstars of Tomorrow was brought to the High Desert in 2007 by locals Chuck and Diana Foskett, who opened the venue to third-party promoters last year. Rockin’ shows now corral like-minded, music-loving community members, giving them something to look forward to on the weekends.

Most recently, the new music venue hosted the Redbone Music Festival honoring Pat Vegas, the last standing member of the Indigenous “Come and Get Your Love” rock band.

Chuck told the Daily Press that this is an exciting new chapter for the venue.

Coming up, American punk band Agent Orange will play its debut show in the High Desert. Formed in 1979, the Golden State band was among the first to blend punk elements with quintessential California surf music. Their well-received music has 326,000 monthly Spotify listeners, to date.

Rockstars of Tomorrow partnered with High Desert promoter Suckapunch to book Agent Orange. Suckapunch is a local Antelope Valley organization that has booked Black Flag and other well-known bands in the High Desert since 2017.

For Suckapunch, the music comes first.

Suckapunch brings big-name bands to the High Desert

Suckapunch started in 1997 by brothers Danny and Art Banura when they first moved to the High Desert area. They ran The Fly Theatre on 7th Street in Downtown Victorville before the venue closed, then bounced around helping run and book bands at most other venues in the desert.

The late ’90s and early 2000s were a “great time for the High Desert music scene,” Danny remembers fondly. After The Fly closed, the Banura brothers took a break from booking due to a “lack of good venues” and started a local record label, tagged My Own Wallet.

The brothers partnered with Suckapunch two years ago and have been unstoppable. Suckapunch Productions now books shows of all genres from the desert to Washington state and beyond.

Rapper Tech N9ne is the biggest artist they’ve booked. Legendary ’70s punk band Black Flag was another hit show Suckapunch put on at the Whiskey Barrel in Hesperia.

The promoters prefer to stray away from bar venues, Danny said, in an effort to create a more inclusive, music-focused environment for all. Suckapunch wants “the new generation” to enjoy shows too, Danny continued, which is why the Rockstars of Tomorrow venue works.
