Evri to merge with DHL’s UK e-commerce business
- German delivery giant buys ‘significant’ minority stake in Evri owner Apollo
- Evri will enter the business letter market for the first time post merger
Evri is set to merge with German delivery giant DHL’s UK economerce business, creating one of the country’s biggest delivery firms.
DHL will buy a ‘significant’ minority stake in Evri, which is owned by private equity firm Apollo, leading to a merged business it says will deliver more than one billion parcels and one billion business letters annually.
The deal, financial details of which were not published, will see Evri entering the British business letter market for the first time thereby bolstering its competition to Royal Mail.
It follows the acquisition of Yodel by Poland’s InPost announced last month.
Evri, which was named and shamed by Ofcom as the UK’s worst parcel delivery service for customer satisfaction for the second consecutive year in October, will also have access to DHL´s network in Europe, the US and some Asian markets such as India.
The pair said in a statement this would allow Everi to offer faster cross-border transit times.

The two operations, which will operate as Evri Group, will bring together more than 30,000 couriers and van drivers, and 12,000 further workers.
Evri boss Martijn de Lange said the merger brings together ‘two highly complementary UK businesses’, which are ‘committed to innovation and offering customers and clients the best possible service’.
He added: ‘By combining Evri’s scale, innovation and DHL ecommerce’s best-in-class premium van network, we are creating the pre-eminent parcel delivery group in the UK.’
Pablo Ciano, chief executive of DHL eCommerce, said the merger would a create a ‘one-stop shop for all our customers’ parcel needs’ with consumers enjoying ‘better delivery options from around the world’.
He added: ‘DHL eCommerce and Evri both stand for top service quality, reliability, and sustainability, which makes this partnership a great fit for our customers.
‘Together, we’ll be able to offer more efficient, far-reaching, and innovative solutions to keep up with the fast-paced e-commerce market.
