Vi has launched its 5G network in Delhi NCR in partnership with Ericsson, deploying energy-efficient mid-band radios for better speed and signal quality. The rollout is part of Vi’s wider 5G plan across key Indian states including Kerala, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
Vi has launched 5G services in Delhi NCR using Ericsson’s advanced radio tech.
New Delhi: Delhi-NCR just got another 5G upgrade. Vodafone Idea (Vi) has rolled out its 5G services in the region, powered by a tech partnership with Ericsson. The Swedish telecom gear maker is helping Vi deploy high-efficiency radio hardware to strengthen coverage and boost data speeds in the national capital and nearby areas.
This marks a key step in Vi’s 5G expansion in India and follows its earlier agreement with Ericsson to handle 4G upgrades and 5G deployment in several states. These include Delhi, Kerala, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Vi switches on 5G with Ericsson’s help
Vi is using Ericsson’s latest radio tech including the AIR 3268 and AIR 3255 radios, which are designed for better energy efficiency and higher spectrum use. These mid-band Massive MIMO antennas can help handle large volumes of traffic while cutting down power usage and costs.
The new 5G gear has been integrated into the network without disrupting services. Ericsson has also replaced older 2G and 4G components in the Delhi network with new equipment. Vi said this upgrade is aimed at giving users faster speeds, better stability and an overall improved experience on the network.
What this means for Vi users
With 5G now live in Delhi NCR, Vi users in the region will start seeing faster download speeds and lower latency. The upgrade also helps prepare Vi’s network to support new-age technologies like smart city systems, real-time surveillance, connected cars and enterprise automation.
Jagbir Singh, Vi’s CTO, said, “The launch of our 5G services in Delhi marks a pivotal step in Vi’s journey to deliver next-generation connectivity to our customers.” He added that the partnership with Ericsson is helping modernise the network for future demands.
Andres Vicente, who heads Ericsson’s business in Southeast Asia and India, said this rollout strengthens their long-term partnership with Vi. He called it part of Ericsson’s larger effort to help build strong digital infrastructure across India.
Delhi joins the Vi 5G map
The Delhi-NCR rollout adds momentum to Vi’s slowly expanding 5G footprint. While Jio and Airtel have already launched 5G in several circles, Vi has been taking a more phased approach, focusing on modernisation first. The move in Delhi could mark the beginning of a wider push in other metro circles in the coming months.
