Charlize Theron says she fractured toe, did stunts without harness on Apex
Charlize Theron is willing to put her life on the line for a new action movie.
The Atomic Blonde star teased her upcoming movie Apex at Netflix’s 2025 upfront presentation on Wednesday, and recalled the physical toll of the action-thriller, which is set in “no man’s land” in Australia.
“Our crew delivered a really impressive movie, and yours truly did some stunts and action — without a harness, sometimes,” she said. “Don’t tell Netflix.”
Theron detailed how the Apex experience still lingers with her. “It’s actually a miracle that I’m here today,” she said. “Apex only wrapped like a week ago, so I’m fresh off the mountain. I still have some Australian dirt under this pretty manicure, and my cute boot is hiding a fractured toe, and I can go on and on and on, but I won’t.”
Despite that, “I can honestly say that shooting Apex was one of the most incredible experiences of my life,” the actress said.
Theron also admitted she was surprised that Apex‘s physicality outdid her other upcoming Netflix action project.
“I actually never thought that I would be able to outdo the action that I did in Old Guard 2, which is coming out in a couple of weeks,” she said. “Back to me almost dying, I’m really proud to share a little of this mammoth movie that I got to work on, and I have to say I was very lucky to work alongside the very talented Taron Egerton.”

The Bombshell actress said that Apex follows “a woman trying to rediscover herself only to be hunted by a ruthless and unforgiving human predator” — and the footage that debuted during the presentation suggests that Egerton is that predator.
The trailer begins with footage of Theron in a kayak and rock climbing without a harness before encountering Egerton’s character.

“Spend a lot of time out here, huh?” Theron’s character asks.
“[I] practically live out here. Awful lot of noise in the world,” Egerton responds.
The trailer then becomes more menacing, and Egerton’s character looks down the scope of a crossbow. Theron can be seen jumping over a waterfall and falling into a river as Egerton menacingly crawls after her.
Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns, Beast), Apex also stars Eric Bana. The film does not yet have a release date.
