Foreign investment projects drop amid wider European slowdown

Britain hosted the second-highest number of foreign investment projects last year amid a decline in overseas capital flowing into Europe’s larger economies, research on Thursday showed.

Some 853 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects started in the UK in 2024, according to researchers at EY, the consultancy, a decline of 13 per cent compared with the previous year.

France secured 1,025 FDI projects, making the world’s seventh-largest economy Europe’s leading destination for overseas investment for the sixth year running, although that figure was down by 14 per cent on an annual basis. Germany received the third-highest number of FDI initiatives at 608, a drop of 17 per cent year-on-year.

The total number of FDI projects that started in Europe last year declined by 5 per cent
