JK Tyre Launches India’s First Passenger Car Tyre with ISCC Plus Certified Sustainable Materials

JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has started producing its new passenger car tyre, the ‘UX Royale Green’, using ISCC Plus certified sustainable materials at its Chennai facility. This development marks the introduction of India’s first passenger car tyre manufactured with globally certified renewable and recycled raw materials.

The ISCC Plus certification is a part of the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification framework, which verifies the traceability of responsibly sourced inputs throughout the value chain. This move is part of JK Tyre’s broader strategy to integrate circular economy principles into its manufacturing process.

Originally developed in August 2023, the UX Royale Green is composed of up to 80% sustainable materials. These include bio-attributed polymers, renewable oils, recycled rubber powder, recovered carbon black, recycled polyester, and steel wire. The tyre underwent comprehensive testing and validation before being approved for production.

Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., noted that this initiative reflects the company’s shift toward environmentally responsible manufacturing. He added that performance, innovation, and safety continue to be key areas of focus.

JK Tyre has a history of prioritising quality standards. In 1995, it became the first tyre manufacturer globally to receive ISO 9001 certification across its entire operations. The UX Royale Green tyre continues this approach by combining performance with sustainable material use.

With this launch, JK Tyre further extends its role in sustainable manufacturing and contributes to the growing adoption of eco-friendly technologies in the Indian automotive sector.

JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. is the flagship company of the JK Organisation and ranks among the top 20 tyre manufacturers globally. The company operates 11 manufacturing facilities—nine in India and two in Mexico—producing around 35 million tyres annually. JK Tyre pioneered radial tyre technology in India in 1977 and continues its innovation efforts through its R&D centre, the Raghupati Singhania Centre of Excellence in Mysore. The company has received several recognitions for its ESG practices, including a ‘Best in Class’ rating, the ‘Sword of Honour’ from the British Safety Council, and a place among India’s top 30 most sustainable companies, according to Business World. JK Tyre is also India’s first tyre company to join the RE100 initiative.
