Web3 services platform Unchained Music signs deal with vinyl pressing plant Sonic Wax | Digital

Distribution and services company Unchained Music has agreed a manufacturing and distribution partnership with vinyl pressing plant Sonic Wax.

The partnership will see select artists on Unchained’s Web3 services platform gain a physical presence in record stores globally.

Founded in 2022, Sonic Wax is a boutique vinyl pressing plant with worldwide distribution to record stores including HMV, Rough Trade, Phonica Records and Juno. It has served numerous high-profile artists to date including Raye, Swedish House Mafia, Boy George, Masters At Work and Chase & Status.

Unchained Music is an artist and label services company that has distributed music for more than 70,000 artists to date, as well as offering marketing, strategic planning, vinyl pressing, physical distribution, playlist pitching, royalty advances and catalogue monetisation to both label and artist clients.

This partnership with Sonic Wax comes after Unchained Music announced an alignment with blockchain network Sei, along with wallet-based authentication and identity solutions company Dynamic, for its administration and payout infrastructure.

This partnership between Unchained Music and Sonic Wax provides a conduit from the digital world to the physical world

Sonic Wax founder Lee Jeffries (pictured) said: “This partnership between Unchained Music and Sonic Wax provides a conduit from the digital world to the physical world, opening the door to artists who wouldn’t normally have access to physical shelves in record stores all over the world. Vinyl product helps digital releases get further traction and, let’s not forget, a 300 run of vinyl delivers the same revenue as one million streams!

“Both digital and physical are really important in today’s music business ecosystem, and it’s great to see a digital-first company recognising the importance of physical product.”

Unchained Music CMO Scott Ashby said: “Unchained was built on the belief that we could supercharge artist and rights-holder businesses, and tackle many of the industry’s legacy issues, with bleeding-edge Web3 technology. But, we are a holistic, full service company, and recognise that our clients’ businesses are multi-faceted, with great physical product still a significant part of their offering.

“This partnership with Sonic Wax allows our clients to benefit from frictionless vinyl production and fulfilment where we feel it will benefit their campaigns. We’re looking forward to working with Lee and the Sonic Wax team.”
