Dehradun To Mussorrie In 20 Mins, Not 2.5 Hours With India’s Longest Ropeway (Rs 300 Crore Budget) – Trak.in

For those who dream of gliding above mountains and soaking in the pristine views of hill stations, there is exciting news on the horizon. Mussoorie Sky Car Private Limited has announced a scenic ropeway project that will connect Dehradun to Mussoorie — and it’s set to be India’s longest passenger ropeway yet.

Project Highlights: 5.2 KM of Scenic Luxury

Unveiled at INTERALPIN 2023 in Innsbruck, Austria, the Rs 300 crore ropeway will feature a 5.2-kilometre monocable detachable gondola system. It will ascend nearly 1,000 metres, reducing the current 2-hour road journey between Dehradun and Mussoorie to just 20 minutes.

This world-class initiative is a joint venture between FIL Industries, SRM Engineering, and France-based POMA SAS.

Eco-Friendly and Electrically Powered

The ropeway will be powered entirely by electricity and operate year-round, making it a greener, sustainable alternative to traditional hill travel. With its eco-conscious design, the project is expected to significantly reduce vehicular carbon emissions in the region.

Safety Meets Comfort

Built to meet European safety standards (CEN), the ropeway will include:

  • 10-seater diamond gondolas with ample ventilation
  • Automatic doors and weather-proof cabins
  • Capacity to transport 1,300 passengers per hour each way
  • Frequent inspections and high-end safety protocols

Some components will be manufactured in India, boosting local production and employment.

An Unmissable Experience

Whether you’re a tourist, nature lover, or local commuter, the ropeway promises an unmatched experience — a 20-minute floating journey above valleys, forests, and clouds.

Final Word

Set to begin operations in September 2026, this record-setting ropeway is more than just a transport solution — it’s a travel experience that blends technology, sustainability, and Himalayan beauty. Mussoorie just gave travellers one more reason to visit.
