Accor to launch its first Ennismore branded hotel in India this year

Accor and InterGlobe said Tuesday that Gaurav Bhushan will be chairman of their proposed joint hospitality enterprise in India. An Accor veteran, Bhushan previously served as global chief development officer at the hospitality chain, overseeing more than 500 hotel signings annually.

The two companies had said last month that the new platform will target a network of 300 hotels under Accor brands by 2030. In an interview to ET, Bhushan said the chain aims to build a 360 degrees hospitality enterprise in India.

“Besides hotels, we also want to look at food and beverage and the entertainment business,” he said. “We run restaurants, we run members’ clubs, we run live entertainment venues globally. It’s all part of curating a lifestyle hospitality platform. All those segments will be very much a part of our venture here as we launch our Ennismore brands. We will bring these into the market and the market is ready for it,” he added.Bhushan said the chain will also launch its first Ennismore branded hotel later this year in India. Ennismore is Accor’s lifestyle brand. “Our focus will be on asset light development. About less than half of the portfolio is owned now, but going ahead, almost the whole pipeline is all asset light,” he added.

He said the new enterprise will be a single, autonomous entity integrating the entire brand portfolio of Accor and Ennismore. “This entity will develop and operate all the brands as an autonomous organisation. It will include owned, developed and managed hotels. The primary reason is to simplify the organisation and drive growth,” he said. “The industry is at an inflection point in India. Accor and InterGlobe have evolved over the last 20 years into substantially larger organisations. InterGlobe is a giant in aviation and hospitality. Accor’s brand portfolio has grown from 12-13 brands to over 40 brands now. So it was time to reset given the context of the market and the context of the two partners,” he added.

The two companies had also stated last month that Accor and InterGlobe will jointly invest in and become the largest shareholders in Treebo. Treebo will take the lead to develop the Ibis and Mercure brands in India through a master license agreement. “We are shareholders in that company, and their exclusive global hospitality partner, so they will work with us to develop our brands in the country,” said Bhushan.
