Traveling science lab aims to spark STEM interest for area students

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A “Curiosity Cube” is making its appearance in our area this week to give kids the opportunity to learn about science and get some hands-on experience.

The Millipore-Sigma Curiosity Cube is traveling across the United States, Canada, Europe and Africa this year.

It is a 22 by 10 foot interactive mobile science lab designed to not only provide hands-on education to students, but to also spark an interest in STEM careers and provide Millipore-Sigma employees the opportunity to serve as inspiring role models.

This is the ‘Curiosity Cube’s’ seventh annual tour.

“Being hands-on gets the students excited, you’re actually able to retain that science knowledge a little more. And you’re more willing to go out into the world and share what you’ve learned if you’ve done something in the lab,” says coordinator Audra Demariano.

The ‘Curiosity Cube’ will be in Wingate on Wednesday and then in State College on Thursday.
