Nvidia’s AI plans in Taiwan: All you need to know

Global chip giant Nvidia has announced a series of ambitious artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure projects in Taiwan during Computex 2025, as the semiconductor industry navigates ongoing challenges posed by US tariffs and supply chain disruptions.

The initiatives, developed in partnership with key Taiwanese players and backed by government support, underscore Taiwan’s growing role in the global AI race.

‘AI factory’ supercomputer

Nvidia revealed plans to build Taiwan’s first large-scale AI supercomputer, in collaboration with Foxconn, TSMC, and the Taiwanese government. Dubbed an “AI factory”, this computing facility will be operated by Foxconn subsidiary Big Innovation Company and serve as a national AI infrastructure project, supported by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council.

The system will house 10,000 of Nvidia’s latest Blackwell GPUs and include its cutting-edge Blackwell Ultra systems, such as the GB300 NVL72 rack-scale platform. The goal is to significantly enhance AI computing capabilities for researchers, businesses, and institutions across Taiwan.

Additionally, Nvidia announced it will provide a separate high-performance AI supercomputer to upgrade the National Centre for High-Performance Computing (NCHC), replacing the current Taiwania 2 system.

AI computing centre with FoxconnIn a parallel initiative, Nvidia and Foxconn are partnering to develop a new AI computing centre, which will be built in stages with a planned capacity of 100 megawatts. This facility will serve as a hub for AI development across multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, urban planning, and industrial research.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the project as an asset for Taiwan’s entire technology ecosystem, saying: “We’re going to build an AI factory for Foxconn, for Nvidia, and the whole of Taiwan.”

New overseas headquarters in Taipei

Nvidia also announced the establishment of its new overseas headquarters in Taiwan, to be located in the Beitou Shilin Science Park near Taipei. The campus, named ‘Nvidia Constellation,’ will serve as a base for the company’s operations in the region, further cementing its long-term commitment to Taiwan.
