Thailand launches ‘Sawasdee-Ni Hao’ campaign to celebrate 50 years of ties with China and boost tourism
Thailand will host 300 Chinese tour operators and 200 influencers from May 28–June 1 as part of the “Sawasdee-Ni Hao” tourism drive marking five decades of Thai–Chinese relations.
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai government is preparing a large-scale tourism promotion titled “Sawasdee-Ni Hao” to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.
Scheduled for May 28th to June 1st, the event will bring 300 Chinese tour operators and 200 key influencers from 25 to 30 provinces across China. They will join business matchmaking sessions with 500 Thai tourism businesses, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and stimulate the inbound market.
Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that more than 13 million tourists have visited Thailand since the beginning of this year. The influx has generated over 630 billion baht in tourism revenue. Tourists from China, Malaysia, and South Korea have contributed the most under the “Amazing Thailand 2025” campaign.
Tourist arrivals from South Korea have increased by 10 percent, moving the country from eighth to fourth place in the top source markets. For the week ending May 18, the top five countries were Malaysia at about 68,700, China at 62,500, India, South Korea, and Laos. Visitors from China and India also saw weekly increases of 2.18 percent and 1.34 percent, respectively.
The government affirmed Thailand’s readiness to serve as a top global destination. It aims to use tourism as a long-term economic driver, generate income, boost local economies, and support Thai entrepreneurs on the global stage.
