Why is Sanjay Manjrekar calling the squad strange?
There were many bold changes in the squad. The biggest talking point was the appointment of Shubman Gill as captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, who recently retired. Gill, just 25, was chosen ahead of experienced names like Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul.
Another major omission was Mohammed Shami, who wasn’t picked because of injury concerns. In his place, selectors went with young pacers like Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna.

Also, Virat Kohli is no longer part of the team after retiring from Test cricket, creating more space for young blood like Sai Sudharsan.
