Rs 4.3 lakh crore investment interest at Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, NE is India’s next economic powerhouse
Guwahati, May 25: The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 23, concluded with investment commitments and expressions of interest worth an unprecedented Rs 4.3 lakh crore, positioning the Northeastern Region (NER) as India’s next economic powerhouse.
In his valedictory address on May 24, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia declared that the Northeast has “emerged as a hub of global partnership and mutual interest,” drawing delegations from over 80 countries. “India’s future lies in the Northeast,” Scindia said, citing the region’s transformation under the Modi-led government.

Major industry leaders — Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Anil Agarwal — announced over Rs 1.55 lakh crore in combined investments targeting sectors such as agriculture, telecommunications, digital services, and infrastructure. Reliance Industries alone committed Rs 75,000 crore, while the Adani Group pledged Rs 50,000 crore and Vedanta announced Rs 30,000 crore.
“This is the first time MDoNER has hosted an investment summit of this magnitude,” Scindia said, highlighting efforts that included nine domestic investor roadshows, multiple Ambassador meets involving 95+ countries, and extensive industry consultations.
He announced the creation of eight sectoral task forces — spanning agriculture to tourism — to help each Northeastern state chart customized growth strategies. The minister underscored the region’s potential in renewable energy, sports, culture, and connectivity, noting that national highways in the Northeast have expanded from 10,905 km in 2014 to 16,207 km in 2024, and the number of operational airports has nearly doubled in a decade.
PM Modi, in his inaugural address, emphasized the central government’s development thrust, with Rs 21,000 crore invested in education, including new medical colleges, schools, and technical institutions.

MoS External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and MoS DoNER Sukanta Majumdar lauded the summit as a “turning point” for the region, which they said is now firmly on the global investment map.
Calling it the dawn of a “New Economic Revival,” Minister Scindia vowed that MDoNER will continue to facilitate Business-to-Government and Business-to-Business dialogues to translate every MoU into ground-level progress. “NER is ready to be India’s international gateway to Southeast Asia,” he declared.
