In the wake of bad weather conditions in the national capital, the Delhi Airport on Sunday evening issued an advisory regarding a possible impact on flight operations.

The airport urged the passengers to seek the updated flight information from the concerned airlines before their travel.

“Due to inclement weather conditions and changing wind patterns, there might be an impact on flight operations at Delhi Airport. Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” the Delhi Airport posted the advisory issued at 7 pm on X.

Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were severely hit due to bad weather. Delhi received heavy rainfall on Saturday evening and in the intervening night on Sunday, forcing at least 49 flights between 11:30 PM and 4 AM to be diverted.

Earlier this morning, the Delhi Airport said, “Due to adverse weather conditions last night, some flights have been impacted. Passengers are advised to check their flight status regularly and stay in touch with airline staff for updates.”

The India Meteorological Department said Delhi’s main weather station recorded wind speeds of up to 82 kmph and 81.2 mm of rainfall in just six hours — between 11:30 pm on Saturday and 5:30 am on Sunday.

A section of the membrane shade at Terminal 1 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport collapsed on Sunday morning after heavy rain hit parts of the national capital and nearby areas. The structure, which was put up after a deadly incident last year, collapsed during the downpour. No one was injured in the incident.

Heavy rain caused severe waterlogging in many parts of the city. This led to traffic jams and slow-moving vehicles in several areas. Footage from Delhi’s Minto Road showed a car almost fully submerged due to the flooding.
