UN Economic Commission for Europe ready to continue cooperation with Armenia in a number of areas

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is ready to continue cooperation with the Armenian government, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, water resources management and environmental protection, said UN Deputy Secretary General, UNECE Executive Secretary Tatiana Molchan at the meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the press service of the Armenian government reported.


YEREVAN, May 27. /ARKA/. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is ready to continue cooperation with the Armenian government, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, water resources management and environmental protection, said UN Deputy Secretary General, UNECE Executive Secretary Tatiana Molchan at the meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the press service of the Armenian government reported.


The Prime Minister welcomed Ms. Molcean’s visit to Armenia, highlighting the continued development of cooperation between Armenia and various UN bodies, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.


Prime Minister Pashinyan noted that Armenia highly appreciates the role of the UN in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, deepening cooperation in the environmental and economic spheres, and developing capacities.


During the meeting, issues related to expanding cooperation between Armenia and UN structures, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, and implementing joint programs were discussed. The opportunities for further cooperation in the sector, in particular, in the areas of energy and infrastructure development, as well as Armenia’s progress in implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, were discussed.


Prime Minister Pashinyan presented the Government of Armenia’s vision for the modernization and improvement of infrastructure, including in the transport, logistics, energy and digital sectors. In this context, reference was made to the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative of the Government of Armenia, which aims to unblock regional transport routes based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction and reciprocity.


The interlocutors also touched upon the 17th Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) to be held in Armenia in 2026, emphasizing its strategic importance in both the regional and global environmental agenda.


Ms. Molcean, in turn, expressed gratitude for the reception, emphasizing the readiness of the UN Economic Commission for Europe to continue cooperation with the Government of Armenia, in particular in the areas of sustainable development, water resources management and environmental protection.-0-
