RBI authorises Worldline ePayments India as cross-border payment aggregator
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorised Worldline ePayments India to operate as an Export-Import Payment Aggregator – Cross-Border (PA-CB E&I). The approval falls under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
This authorisation allows Worldline to process cross-border online payments for import and export of goods and services. The company received the RBI’s approval letter on May 21, 2025.
With the PA-CB E&I licence, Worldline can support Indian exporters and importers by streamlining international payment flows. It can now act as a digital intermediary for global transactions, ensuring compliance with RBI guidelines on cross-border payments.
Worldline already holds licences to operate as a domestic Payment Aggregator (PA) and as a Bharat Bill Payment Operating Unit (BBPOU). These authorisations enable it to offer digital payment services to merchants across sectors such as e-commerce, BFSI, utilities, retail, education, travel, and hospitality.
Ramesh Narasimhan, CEO – India, Worldline, said the RBI’s approval reflects the company’s strong compliance record.
“This authorisation is a significant milestone in our journey. It affirms our long-term commitment to India’s digital payment ecosystem and our focus on providing secure, seamless, and regulated solutions,” he said.
Worldline has operated in India for over two decades. The company offers services ranging from acquiring solutions and payment gateways to in-store payments and bill collections. With the new licence, it aims to deepen its role in India’s growing cross-border commerce.
According to RBI norms, entities operating as PA-CB must adhere to strict guidelines on customer due diligence, foreign exchange regulations, and settlement timelines. The regulator introduced the PA-CB framework in 2021 to formalise and monitor digital cross-border payment flows.
