Netflix adds ‘perfect horror movie’ from Oscar winning director

All horror fans are urged to watch

Netflix has just added what is dubbed as the ‘perfect horror movie’ from an Oscar winning director.

The streaming platform has just included the film Us, as part of its monthly refresh of titles. It is now available for subscribers to rediscover as of today (June 1).

Originally released back in 2019, it was written and directed by comedian turned filmmaker Jordan Peele.

It was his much anticipated follow up to surprise hit Get Out, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

It was only the second film he had helmed, having previously being known for his comedy sketch show Key and Peele, opposite Keegan Michael Key. He would go on to helm Nope and serve as a writer on Candyman.

Us follows Adelaide Wilson and her family after they are attacked by mysterious figures dressed in red. Upon closer inspection, the Wilsons realise that the intruders are exact lookalikes of them.

The cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, alongside Winston Duke, Elizabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker. Peele does make a cameo appearance in his own movie. Like his debut feature Get Out, Us was also praised for being more than just a horror movie and including profound social commentary.

It was a hit with critics with one claiming: “If you are a fan of horror, this is something that absolutely deserves a watch.” While another stated: “Similar to his first film, Peele practically demands multiple viewings.”

Many fans hold in just a high as regard, with one on Letterboxd, sharing: “The best horror movie of 2019, hands down.” Another shared: “Feel very blessed, very moved, very grateful to be alive to witness Jordan Peele’s impact on the horror genre in real time he’s such a GENIUS.”

One more admirer commented: “Jordan Peele just casually making horror masterpieces.” And yet another supporter highlighted Lupita Nyong’o’s role: “The fact that Lupita didn’t even RECIEVE an Oscar nomination for her phenomenal performance in this film is my villain origin story.”

Someone else summarised their thoughts as follows: “This is the perfect horror movie. Creepy, disturbing, suspenseful, intriguing, tense, these are the things I look for in a horror movie While I normally don’t scare easily, this movie gave me chills like no other!”

They continued: “Unlike Get Out, the twists, suspense, edge of seat intensity, and goosebumps this movie provides are perfectly balanced to create a flawless masterpiece to leave you with no breath and a dropped jaw.”

Us is streaming on Netflix.
