UN Resident Coordinator’s Visit Shared Digital Transformation, and Education – TNN
As part of his official visit to Bermuda, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Bermuda, Jamaica, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mr. Dennis Zulu, continued his series of engagements with key Government ministers, focusing on regional development priorities and deepening cooperation with the United Nations system.
Mr. Zulu met with the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, the Hon. Diallo Rabain, JP, MP, and the Minister of Education, the Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, MP.
Minister Rabain and Mr. Zulu discussed various regional and national priorities, including climate resilience, digital government reform, and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in public service and education.
Minister Rabain noted, “Our meeting underscored the importance of aligning Bermuda’s innovation agenda with regional and global sustainable development goals. From our climate-smart building codes to digitising public services and using AI in classrooms, Bermuda is eager to share and learn alongside our regional neighbours. The opportunity for collaboration with the UN and countries such as Jamaica on digital learning, resilient infrastructure, and knowledge exchange is a welcomed development.”
Mr. Zulu commended Bermuda’s traditional roof construction and building standards, suggesting these could serve as a regional best practice to enhance hurricane resilience in other Caribbean jurisdictions. The discussion also touched on the high cost of energy in small island states and the potential for scaling up renewable energy solutions through shared approaches.
During her meeting with the UN delegation, Minister Caesar emphasised the potential of international cooperation to support education transformation and regional solidarity.
“It was a pleasure meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Dennis Zulu, along with his Development Coordination Officer, Mr. Jomain MacKenzie, and his Partnerships and Development Finance Officer, Ms. Maxsalia Salmon,” said Minister Caesar. “I am encouraged by the prospect of Bermuda having a dedicated voice advocating for our interests on the international stage alongside our Regional partners such as Jamaica, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, with whom we share many common challenges and aspirations. We look forward to engaging with Mr. Zulu’s office as a valuable resource, exploring synergies with comparable jurisdictions, and fostering a collaborative and lasting partnership that yields mutual benefit.”
The Government of Bermuda thanks Mr. Zulu and the United Nations for their continued engagement and looks forward to building on these discussions as part of a wider effort to strengthen regional collaboration and advance sustainable development for all.
