Vistara experience will remain post merger, says Air India – Here’s how passengers can identify Vistara flight services – Airlines/Aviation News

Air India on Wednesday (October 2) announced that after its merger with Vistara next month, flights operated with Vistara aircraft will carry flight numbers starting with the prefix ‘AI2.’ The airline clarified that Vistara’s planes, crew, and services will continue to operate as they currently do, ensuring that the Vistara experience remains intact post-merger.

The merger between Vistara, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, and Air India is scheduled for November 12. This marks a significant consolidation in the Indian aviation sector, following the integration of AIX Connect with Air India Express.

Vistara experience to continue

There have been concerns regarding whether Vistara passengers will continue to receive the same level of service after the merger, especially as Air India has been undergoing a transformation and facing certain service challenges in recent times.

An Air India spokesperson stated that teams from both Air India and Vistara have been working diligently for over a year to ensure a seamless transition for customers and staff.

The spokesperson said that while the legal entities and Air Operator Certificates will merge on November 12, the Vistara experience will remain. “Vistara aircraft, crew and service will continue to operate as before, but with AI2XXX flight numbers bookable via airindia.com,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

How can travellers distinguish Air India and Vistara flights?

Vistara aircraft, crew, and service will continue to operate as before, but under AI2XXX flight numbers that can be booked via airindia.com,” the statement said.

Air India’s airline code is ‘AI,’ while Vistara’s is ‘UK,’ which will be phased out after the merger. Additionally, Vistara’s catering services will be extended to Air India.

According to the spokesperson, Air India is also upgrading its narrow-body fleet, with new aircraft being delivered and legacy aircraft receiving completely new interiors. The merger, announced in November 2022, will see Singapore Airlines acquiring a 25.1 percent stake in the newly formed entity.
