Thousands gather in Terre Haute for Special Olympics Indiana summer games 2025 – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WISH) — Special Olympics Indiana’s annual Summer Games are wrapping up in Terre Haute. More than 5,000 met at Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for the event.
Organizers said 2,400 athletes competed in seven Olympic-type sports, including bocce, bowling, cycling, powerlifting, swimming, track and field, and volleyball. This gathering is a celebration of athletic achievement, friendship, and fun, with participants coming from 60 delegations across the state.
“For the athletes, these three days are a chance to reunite with friends and celebrate their sports through competition and camaraderie,” Jeff Mohler, president and CEO of Special Olympics Indiana, said.
The event promotes health and fitness with the Healthy Athletes area providing free screenings and instruction on various health topics, including strong minds, healthy hearing, and special smiles.
With a focus on competition and community, the Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games promise a weekend of memorable experiences for athletes, families, and spectators alike.
