Portuguese ship leads the inaugural parade of the UN Conference

The historic Portuguese cod fishing ship, built in 1937 and renovated in 2022, departed from Monaco late in the morning, arriving around 5 PM local time in Nice (4 PM Lisbon time) to participate in a parade.

The fleet also included vessels from Spain, Italy, France, Angola, Norway, among others. The ship corridor featured both modern and traditional vessels with sails raised.

The Portuguese ship carried approximately 40 people on board, including scientists, representatives from non-governmental organizations, local fishing associations, and members of the Oceano Azul Foundation. All these organizations are set to participate in the UN Conference, which commences on Monday.

This event also served to mark World Ocean Day, celebrated today.

The third UN conference aims to further the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 14, which focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean.
