Bharat Taxi: India’s mobility landscape is about to undergo a significant change with the much-anticipated launch of Bharat Taxi in December 2025. India’s first cooperative taxi service, Bharat Taxi, will begin its operation in December. The pilot project is set to start in Delhi with 650 drivers in November.
From next month, it will expand to other states in the country with 5,000 drivers and women ‘Saarthi’ (drivers) ready to accompany it.
Taxi services were mostly offered by private companies like Ola and Uber. However, their safety standards had always been questioned. To tackle this, the central government is coming up with its own supervised taxi service.

The Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) have developed Bharat Taxi as the country’s first fixed national cooperative ride-hailing platform.
The drivers shall also have co-ownership in this service. Recently, an MoU has been entered into with Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited for this.
NeGD and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited have made their partnership official through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which is aimed at providing strategic advisory and technical support in the fields of platform integration, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, and governance.
The Bharat Taxi project is an initiative backed by leading cooperative and financial institutions, NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB, and NCEL.
