Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi Played a W.H.O. Doctor in This Zombie Movie Streaming on Paramount+

Twelve years after its release in theaters, World War Z is getting a resurgence in popularity on streaming.

Starring Hollywood icon Brad Pitt, World War Z is now available for streaming domestically on Paramount+. In other territories, it has also garnered high viewership on Netflix, where it currently sits at No. 8 on the global chart (per Flix Patrol). When it was released in theaters in 2013, the film made $540 million at the worldwide box office, and many fans consider it to be among the best of the more modern zombie flicks.

The Best Movie in Denzel Washington’s Only Franchise Is a Hit Again on Streaming

A critically acclaimed action movie starring Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington has become a favorite again on the streaming charts.

Directed by Marc Forster, World War Z is inspired by the book of the same name by author Max Brooks, though there is little they have in common beyond the shared title. The book detailed accounts of various zombie attacks by different survivors across the world, while the movie had a much more linear narrative. It starred Pitt as Gerry Lane, a former U.N. investigator hoping to find a solution when the planet is ravaged by a zombie apocalypse.

“Yeah, I mean, the idea is that how I conceived the film,” Forster previously told Collider about developing the movie, “but how I felt the book was as well is that the film should feel very real, that the world, that it could happen right now in the world we live in and to make it as real as possible and sort of create that, because I didn’t want it to feel camp. I wanted it to feel very real, that it could happen actually to us today.”

Everything We Know About the Cancelled Movie, World War Z 2

After the disappointment of World War Z, what really happened during the development of Brad Pitt’s canceled World War Z 2?

The filmmaker also noted of his goal for the film, “I think there always be discussion and a little bit of controversy, I think, on every zombie movie, because there are definitely different camps of what people prefer or not. I hope that most of the zombie fans will appreciate all the new things we added to the movie that they haven’t seen before in this particular genre.”

Peter Capaldi Has a Forgotten Role in World War Z

Pitt was joined in the cast by Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, David Morse, Fana Mokoena, David Andrews, and Sterling Jerins. Oddly, former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi had a supporting role as a W.H.O. doctor in Wales. World War Z was released just two months before Capaldi’s casting as the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who was announced.

World War Z was set to receive a sequel, and in 2018, Pitt was set to reprise his role as Gerry Lane. However, the project fizzled out in development hell, getting delayed before it was ultimately canceled. It’s not entirely clear why the sequel was abandoned, though reports suggest that it was either due to budget concerns or China’s ban on movies featuring zombies or ghosts, which could have greatly impacted its worldwide box office performance.
