New Delhi: Microsoft in its infinite wisdom keeps destroying the essential and most basic functionality in Windows. Windows should just be the operating system in the background, not constantly telling its users what to do. Apart from the soul-crushing startup sequence with options and buttons that do not work, the system calendar is broken because of Windows insisting on a notification area that is absolutely useless, and cannot be removed for good. Another totally broken functionality is the Print Screen button. This is one button that you press to capture the screen in the Clipboard, and it worked perfectly in previous versions, but not in Windows 11.

Now when you press the print screen button, you get a whole bunch of options which freezes the content in the background while you pick between an area or the whole screen or recording a video. Laptop manufacturers have compounded the problem by introducing their own ideas on what the function keys are supposed to do, so you just cannot go back to taking a simple and straightforward screenshot when pressing a button dedicated on the keyboard to do exactly that. The Xbox version is even more broken, because Microsoft expects you to press the Windows, Alt and Print Screen button in the middle of a game to capture a screenshot. Just try reaching those buttons to check out how difficult it is.

Third party screenshotting apps

There is no way to reconfigure the PrintScreen function in Xbox to use fewer keys or even one key, as it insists on using multiple keys. The only option to restore the simple and straightforward functionality of the PrintScreen button is to use third-party software. We liked Greenshot, which was one of the few third-party software that did not give too many unnecessary options while retaining the core capability of capturing a screenshot when the PrintScreen button is pressed. Unfortunately, the software did not work in tandem with Xbox.
