  • Bad news for Turkey, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh as India marks big defense leap with MACH 8 missile, it can travel…, can destroy…

The ET-LDHCM, which boasts a top speed of Mach 8 (approximately 11,000 km/h), can deliver swift and devastating strikes deep into enemy territory, including targets in China and Pakistan.

Extended Trajectory-Long Duration Hypersonic Cruise Missile (ET-LDHCM)

New Delhi: In a massive development that promises to boost the country’s defense capabilities, India is preparing to test its most advanced indigenously developed hypersonic missile — the Extended Trajectory-Long Duration Hypersonic Cruise Missile (ET-LDHCM).

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is working on a classified initiative called Project Vishnu,. The moot aim of the project is to develop a missile that could potentially shift the military balance in Asia. The missile is being developed entirely with indigenous technology.

The ET-LDHCM, which boasts a top speed of Mach 8 (approximately 11,000 km/h), can deliver swift and devastating strikes deep into enemy territory, including targets in China and Pakistan.

Here are some of the key features:

  • It carries up to 2,000 kg of steel, explosives or nuclear vengeance.
  • It is designed for both conventional and nuclear missions
  • The missile can carry warheads weighing between 1,000 and 2,000 kg over a range of approximately 1,500 km.
  • According to defence sources, the missile’s velocity and evasive mid-flight manoeuvrability make it nearly impossible to intercept with current radar and air defence systems.
  • At the core of the ET-LDHCM is an advanced scramjet engine, which uses atmospheric oxygen for fuel combustion, allowing sustained hypersonic speeds for extended durations.
  • Already tested for 1,000 seconds on the ground, it is now ready to roar through the air. No curves, no arcs and no easy trajectory to track.
  • It is made of metals that do not melt even at 2,000°C, materials that do not blink when the missile rips through the atmosphere and coatings that laugh at oxidation.

What makes ET-LDHCM different from others is its flexibility. The missile can be launched from land-based launchers, aircraft, or naval platforms. This has expanded India’s tactical and strategic strike options. Its pinpoint accuracy and ability to evade interception make it suitable for targeting enemy command centres, radar installations, naval assets, and fortified bunkers.

The successful deployment of the ET-LDHCM is expected to give India a significant strategic advantage. With its high speed, long range, advanced manoeuvrability, and resilience in extreme conditions, the missile stands out as a powerful addition to the nation’s defence capabilities.
