AEGEAN to Start Direct Flights to India in 2026 with New Airbus A321neo XLR Jets
Greece’s flag carrier Aegean Airlines (AEGEAN) is set to expand its international network with the launch of direct flights to New Delhi and Mumbai, starting March and May 2026 respectively.
This move marks a significant step into the Indian market, facilitated by the acquisition of two new Airbus A321neo XLR aircraft scheduled for delivery late 2025 and early 2026.
The Airbus A321neo XLR, known for its extended range of up to 10.5 hours, offers AEGEAN the capability to serve longer routes previously out of reach for narrow-body aircraft. With just 138 seats— including 24 lie-flat Business Class suites— the aircraft promises enhanced comfort and modern amenities such as inflight entertainment with 4K screens, satellite Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports.
“The addition of these two A321neo XLR aircraft accelerates our access to the important Indian market and upgrades our product and services to destinations outside the EU,” said AEGEAN Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis. “This marks a new chapter for AEGEAN, opening new possibilities for growth and connectivity for Greece.”
These aircraft are part of AEGEAN’s broader fleet strategy, complementing a prior order of four A321neo LR planes due for delivery between 2027 and 2028. The combined capabilities will allow AEGEAN to consider additional routes beyond India, including potential new destinations such as Bangalore, Seychelles, Maldives, Nairobi, Almaty, and Lagos.
AEGEAN’s investment reflects a growing emphasis on enhancing passenger experience and reinforcing Greece’s role as a regional connectivity hub for longer-range international travel.
The airline plans to announce detailed flight schedules and commence ticket sales by the end of September.
