Jane Austen fans can’t miss one film inspired by her work. The movie came out in 2013 and follows a 30-something-year-old woman obsessed with Pride and Prejudice heading to an amusement park inspired by the writer’s works.

Audience members have praised the film, with one person posting a 10/10 review and commenting on IMDb: “When this movie first came out, I thought it looked stupid so I wouldn’t give it a chance.

“When I was watching the 1995 BBC version of Pride & Prejudice on DVD, this was one of the previews for the movie.

“I checked it out and I enjoyed this silly, romantic comedy. The entire cast was phenomenal and over the top.”

Another said: “I loved this film from the very start. It has an amazing sarcastic tone and is chalk [sic] full of Austen references.

“The over-dramatic nature of the setting and dialogue makes for a satirical manner which is very similar to Austen’s original novels. The characters are all well developed and presented in a relatable way which makes it even more interesting.”

A third titled their review: “A cute romantic comedy under the radar…”

The user went on to explain; “I only heard of this movie because of a trailer on another Netflix rental. From the get-go I appreciated that the background story of the heroine isn’t drawn out. Instead, you get the gist and are immediately thrown into this wacky, modern spin-off of Jane Austen novels.

“This movie perfectly walks the line of romantic comedy and random humor that really made it enjoyable. The lovable “plain Jane” is likable and you really aren’t 100% sure who her real “Mr. Darcy” is until the very end.”

Austenland starred The Americans and The Diplomat’s Keri Russell as Jane Haynes, a hopeless romantic who pours all her lifesavings in going to a fully immersive Jane Austen experience in Britain.

At Austenland, she and the other guests must forego modern technology and surrender their phones as the don Regency outfits and live like Austen.

They attend balls, learn to dance and interact with actors, who play roles similar to Austen characters with the hopes of an engagement by the end.

The romantic comedy also featured one guest, played to perfection by Jennifer Coolidge, who had no idea about Jane Austen let alone Pride and Prejudice.

Along with Russell, Austenland also starred JJ Feild as Mr Henry Nobley, a Mr Dary-esque figure, The White Lotus’ Coolidge as Elizabeth Charming, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Battlestar Galactica’s James Callis as Colonel Andrews, James Bond star and acting heavyweight Jane Seymour as Mrs. Wattlesbrook, and Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie as Martin.

Further casting included Georgia King as Lady Amelia Heartwright, American Gods’ Ricky Whittle as Captain George East, Game of Thrones star Rupert Vansittart as Mr. Wattlesbrook, and Richard Reid as Nigel.
