Myles Garrett recognized by PFF as the best player in the NFL

It’s time for training camp for the Cleveland Browns as rookies reported today in Berea, sans running back Quinshon Judkins, who is dealing with an issue.

But before getting back to the business of reporting X’s and O’s, the thumb suckers and debate stirrers come. Sometimes they’re bad for the Browns and their long-suffering fans. But sometimes they’re good for those looking for any thread of hope to hang on.

Some good comes courtesy of Pro Football Focus, which selected its 50 best players in the NFL on July 18. Topping that list isn’t a quarterback. It is one Myles Garrett, defensive end for the Browns, who received that honor.

“Garrett remains the brightest star in Cleveland and the NFL’s most dominant defensive player. He’s posted a PFF grade of 92.0 or higher in each of the past four seasons, including a league-leading 92.3 in 2024. Still only 29, Garrett is already building a Hall of Fame resumé with a level of dominance and consistency few players in the past half-decade can match,” write Dalton Wasserman and Trevor Sikkema in their post.

Yes, Garrett comes in ahead of four superstar quarterbacks — Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, Joe Burrow of the Bengals, Lamar Jackson of the Ravens and Josh Allen of the Bills.

Certainly justifies the offseason pay raise, don’t ya think?
