Medtech startup Sunfox Technologies has raised $7 million in a series A funding round led by investor Ashish Kacholia, Lashit Sanghvi, Alchemy Capital and 3one4 Capital.

The company will use the capital to expand across India, build its global go-to-market capabilities and increase investment in research and development.

The funding is the largest round raised by Sunfox, which began as an R&D venture in Uttarakhand in 2016. The company was founded by Rajat Jain, Arpit Jain, Sabit Rawat, Nitin Chandola and Saurabh Badola after the loss of a friend prompted them to explore ways to improve timely cardiac assessment and reduce care time following a heart attack.

“This round gives us the resources to take what we have built in Dehradun to a much larger stage,” said Rajat Jain.

Sunfox’s flagship Spandan platform is a portable ECG solution designed for personal, clinical and institutional use. It allows frontline health workers to capture an ECG using the platform and share it with remote doctors for interpretation, helping flag critical cardiac patterns and facilitate further treatment.

In public-health systems, Spandan can operate through a hub-and-spoke model, where nurses or health workers at primary or community health centres record ECGs and share them with doctors or cardiologists at district hubs for review. The company also offers Spandan One as a digital layer for remote ECG review, case coordination and tele-ECG network management.

Sunfox said it has regulatory approvals in India, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, and is pursuing clearances in the US and European Union.

Around 60,000 Spandan devices have been deployed across India, reaching more than 20,000 villages, according to the company. Its Spandan One platform is used to screen approximately 5 million patients annually across different healthcare settings.
