Astronomer, a leading tech company in the United States, has announced the resignation of its CEO, Andy Byron, in light of a viral video that showed him embracing a female colleague at a Coldplay concert. The company issued a statement on Saturday affirming that its leaders must uphold exemplary conduct and accountability, a standard that was recently compromised.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16, at a Coldplay concert in Boston, Massachusetts. Byron and Kristin Cabot, Astronomer’s Chief People Officer, were seen on the venue’s Jumbotron screen during a “kiss cam” segment, sharing an intimate embrace. Upon realising they were being broadcasted to thousands, both Byron and Cabot quickly recoiled and attempted to hide from the camera. Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin even jested about their reaction, saying, “Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

By Thursday morning, the short clip had gone viral on social media, igniting widespread speculation about a possible affair, especially since both Byron and Cabot are reportedly married. The incident brought unwanted global attention to Astronomer, a company recognised for its innovations in the DataOps sector.

Following the event, Astronomer’s Board of Directors placed both Byron and Cabot on administrative leave and launched a formal investigation. The company emphasised its dedication to its foundational values and culture in its initial statements.

With Byron’s resignation now confirmed, co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy will act as interim CEO while the board searches for a permanent replacement.
